Top 5 things I love about Cairo

OK so I'm a 26-year-old graphic designer and Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $40,496, which feels on the lower side for the area. The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Cairo sits at 274.3 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Uptown area are tough. Kids love it here.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 26, moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in South and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Can feel isolated
3. The cost of living situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The healthcare is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Denver about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is average in most areas.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The nightlife is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
