I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The cost of living scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from LA about 2 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely solid and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (East) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The dating scene is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in tech. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Italian.
