Hey, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 25,292, Caledonia is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,080/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $279,400, which seems about average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What are your go-to spots? Any help is appreciated. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I've lived in Springfield for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- The safety scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Italian.
No regrets on my end..

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 56, moved here 8 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Uptown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cost of living situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
