How are the schools in Calexico?

Hi all, I'm originally from Cincinnati and Household incomes average around $50,021 in Calexico. You can expect to pay around $1,049 for rent here. Homes are going for about $281,700 on average. Poverty rate is 17.7%, which is higher than I expected. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Has anyone dealt with this? Looking forward to hearing from you all. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 55, moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in North and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The community vibe situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
