Moving to California for work -advice?

Hey everyone, Rent is about $1,805/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (East) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
