Things Calistoga needs to improve

Alright, Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $702,700 on average. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Calistoga sits at 112.3 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely hit or miss and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.
