Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 5.8%, which is pretty low. With a population of 70,244, Camarillo is a smaller city. Rent is about $2,650/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $766,100 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I've lived in Springfield for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The cultural scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 15 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like seafood.
