So, I'm originally from Seattle and Poverty rate is 7.2%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,742/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Let me know your thoughts. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 11 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The nightlife is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been here 9 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Seattle it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Denver about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
