Thinking about relocating to Cambridge from Raleigh
Hey, I'm a remote worker and It's a a mid-size city city with about 118K people. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. What are your go-to spots? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The food scene is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2021 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 11 years. Moved from Phoenix for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Property taxes are high. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Eastside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..
