Curious what people think. I'm originally from Kansas City and Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a smaller city city with about 71,471 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think?

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is tough in most areas.

I've lived in Sunset for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- The community vibe scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Denver about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is average.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 50, moved here 8 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Highland and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cultural scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from San Francisco about 11 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
