Anyone else love living in Cameron Park?

Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and You can expect to pay around $1,795 for rent here. With a population of 17,283, Cameron Park is a small town. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in retail here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is better than expected. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely tough and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Downtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Pine Hills area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Nashville about 11 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.
