Hi all, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $1,795 for rent here. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Portland about 12 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cost of living is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..
