Longtime lurker here, I'm single, late 50s, and The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,795 for rent here. Homes are going for about $641,100 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Uptown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much wild but now it's solid.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Uptown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in marketing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
