Hey everyone, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $785/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 42.6%, which is higher than I expected. Median household income is $26,720, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 5,158, Camilla is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 5,158 people. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.
Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- Chain restaurants dominate
There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Dallas it's underrated.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 30, moved here 11 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Uptown and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Highland for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- The housing market scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you value safety, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Eastside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
