Planning a move to Camp Pendleton South -neighborhoods?

Been meaning to ask this. My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 5.3%, which is about average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I overthinking this?

I've lived in Old Town for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The weather scene is tough

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in South area are tough. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Seattle about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (West) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
