You can expect to pay around $2,751 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? TIA! Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (East) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm a social worker and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

Bought a house here in 2024 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 4 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been here 9 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Hope this helps!.
