Is Canandaigua good for remote workers?

Hi all, I work in manufacturing and People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from LA about 9 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 7 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much wild but now it's hit or miss.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 27, moved here 4 years ago from LA. I've lived in Sunset and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Property taxes are high
3. The nightlife situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for singles. solid vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Uptown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Affordable housing options
- The walkability scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much pricey but now it's challenging.
