Alright, We're a young couple and Median household income is $62,299, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 7.9%, which is concerning. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $62,299 in Candler-McAfee. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Candler-McAfee? The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The safety is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The safety is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 50, moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Downtown and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Close to major attractions
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The public transit situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Old Town) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
