Is Candor walkable?

Anyone else feel this way? Crime rate is something to consider -Candor sits at 533.8 per 100K. Household incomes average around $46,983 in Candor. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- The outdoor recreation scene is improving

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 27, moved here 6 years ago from Houston. I've lived in East and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 4 years. Moved from Tampa for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Property taxes are high. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
