Canyon Lake is underrated, change my mind

First post here. My family moved here when I was a kid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in consulting here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is solid. Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community vibe is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely better than expected and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (South) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
