What Canyon Lake does better than anywhere else

So, Military spouse here. Crime rate is something to consider -Canyon Lake sits at 20.5 per 100K. Homes are going for about $337,200 on average. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 4.3%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Growing food scene
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The school system is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Sunset) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 6 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
