My partner and I are Rent is about $986/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
