Hi all, Rent is about $2,678/month for a decent place. Median household income is $139,326, which feels pretty solid for the area. The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Westside area are average. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from San Francisco about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
