Hey folks, I'm retired and Homes are going for about $1,156,900 on average. The median home value here is around $1,156,900, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Anyone in a similar situation?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Boston about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is tough.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Chicago about 11 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
