Been meaning to ask this. Rent is about $1,595/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Carmichael sits at 453.6 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 1 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Seattle about 12 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
