Is Carnegie worth moving to in 2026?

OK so The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What would you do? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Houston it's improving.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 48, moved here 8 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Greenfield and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited shopping options
3. The cost of living situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
- The job market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (South) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
