Homes are going for about $299,200 on average. Poverty rate is 7.9%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What are your go-to spots? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Springfield for 5 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is improving - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited shopping options. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Westside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- The community vibe scene is decent
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Baltimore about 11 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is average.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..
