Moving to Carnot-Moon -what should I know?

First post here. Been living here since 2006. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thoughts? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Charlotte about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely better than expected and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The housing market is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Old Town area are improving. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
