Not sure if this has been asked before, but The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 4.8%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Downtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Sunset area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 27, moved here 5 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Springfield and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The housing market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for school and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The walkability is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Tampa it's challenging.
