Carolina Beach quality of life -am I missing something?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in hospitality and Rent is about $1,544/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $487,800, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What would you do?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The school system is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Bought a house here in 2018 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
- The healthcare scene is average

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
