Best kept secrets of Carpentersville, IL

I'm retired and There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from LA about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Bought a house here in 2015 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.
