Raising a family in Carpentersville -thoughts?

First post here. It's a a smaller city city with about 37,544 people. The median home value here is around $225,200, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? TIA! Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Midtown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The school system scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
