How much do you pay for rent in Carrboro?

OK so I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 21,170 people. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $85,927 in Carrboro. Median household income is $85,927, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Limited dining options
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
What would you do? The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 14 years. Moved from Seattle for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
