Just moved here 11 months ago and Rent is about $1,674/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — Carrollton sits at 129.1 per 100K. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Would love some local perspective. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The traffic is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely average and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 7 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in construction. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The walkability is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.
