Moving from Las Vegas to Carrollton next month

Hello, With a population of 133K, Carrollton is a mid-size city. Poverty rate is 5.3%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Does this match your experience? Thanks for reading. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Sunset) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much developing but now it's average.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 38, moved here 11 years ago from Austin. I've lived in North and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
