Hi all, I'm retired and Median household income is $76,723, which feels about average for the area. Household incomes average around $76,723 in Carrollwood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What are your go-to spots?

I've lived in Sunset for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cost of living scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The nightlife is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Raleigh it's hit or miss.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (The Heights) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for work and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The pet-friendliness is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 34, moved here 2 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Pine Hills and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Property taxes are high
3. The walkability situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.
