So, Just moved here 12 months ago and Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $645,600, which is pretty steep. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely better than expected and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Midtown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Fairview area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The housing market is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 2 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
