Been meaning to ask this. Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,172/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $426,700, which is pretty steep. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What would you do? TIA! The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Atlanta it's decent.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for work and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 24, moved here 8 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Greenfield and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The traffic situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in The Heights for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- The outdoor recreation scene is average
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..
