Weekend activities in Carson City?

Curious what people think. We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -Carson City sits at 488.0 per 100K. The median home value here is around $426,700, which is pretty steep. The city has invested a lot in new development. Does this match your experience? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in retail. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Riverside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 2 years. Moved from Nashville for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is average - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Portland it's hit or miss.

I've been in Fairview for 8 years. Moved from LA for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is decent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Far from beaches/mountains. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for weather and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The food scene is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in finance. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
