It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Worth the trade-offs? Appreciate any input. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Seattle about 6 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The job market scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.
