I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Poverty rate is 9.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $298,000, which seems about average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thoughts? Thanks! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've lived in East for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The food scene scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Austin it's average.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great sushi places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
