Starting a business in Carthage?

Hi all, I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 13.5%, which is around average. Household incomes average around $58,356 in Carthage. You can expect to pay around $959 for rent here. Rent is about $959/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I wrong here? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Charlotte about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
