Relocating to Cary, NC — pros and cons?

Hey everyone, We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,621 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Should I be concerned?

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 12 years. Moved from Denver for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Nightlife is limited. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 48, moved here 4 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Riverside and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The public transit situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
