Longtime lurker here, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The median home value here is around $193,300, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $791 for rent here. Homes are going for about $193,300 on average. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thanks! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.
