Cascades is underrated, change my mind

First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $2,552/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in Old Town for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The walkability scene is decent

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
