So, I relocated for work and You can expect to pay around $1,946 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Springfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to San Francisco it's excellent.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from New York about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
