Is Castro Valley worth it salary-wise?

OK so My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $2,499 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 65,389 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Castro Valley sits at 394.6 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Portland it's hit or miss.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
