Job hunting in Castro Valley -tips?

Hey everyone, The median home value here is around $1,058,200, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $2,499/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Cheers. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The healthcare scene is tough

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.
