What surprised you most about Catawba?

Hey, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $55,385 in Catawba. Rent is about $1,525/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $198,100 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Catawba sits at 688.9 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 1,225 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
Has anyone dealt with this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The housing market is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely underrated and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
