Rent vs buy in Cecilia -what makes sense?

So, We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 18.3%, which is higher than I expected. You can expect to pay around $1,048 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What would you do? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely better than expected and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (East) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much pricey but now it's pretty good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Boston it's tough.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Nashville about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is decent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 1 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
